I have been DREAMING of shooting on one of the Channel Islands out here in Southern California for years now. While I’ve camped on Santa Cruz, and done the classic Catalina Island weekend trip my dream of getting to Anacapa Island FINALLY came true. I actually tried to get there for my birthday a couple years ago, but the boar got cancelled because of the wather! It can be quite difficult to get out there if the seas are too turbulent, so plan accordingly! If you’ve been dreaming of an Anacapa Island Elopement – I hope this inspires you!
The Adventure
I was SO EXCITED when these two reached out and asked for an adventurous photoshoot location with in SoCal. Anacapa Island was the perfect place. With the rugged cliffs, tall green grass , and the romantic lighthouse: this is such a magical place to explore. We had about 4 hours to explore, take snack breaks, do a couple outfit changes, and hike around. It’s only about a 2 mile round trip loop, and pretty flat, so we did the whole thing! I brought my 70 liter backpack to carry the clothes, and lots of water + snacks of course! It was such a blast to go on this photoshoot adventure, literally the perfect day (all 16 hours of it!.) We got up super early to make the long drive out, as there’s only one boat that goes out.
It’s important to note that you need to check in with our friends at the National Park Services (NPS) to inquire about any necessary Permits for your shoot or elopement! And PLEASE stay on trail and review all of their guidelines on Leave No Trace, as this beautiful island needs to be protected! Reach out if you want to plan out your Channel Island Elopement! Or if you want to plan an Anacapa Island Elopement!
